Medtronic MiniMed Insulin Pump Systems
Recently, Medtronic MiniMed Inc. has recalled defective infusion sets used in its MiniMed, Paradigm© insulin pump system. This system is used by diabetics to inject insulin into their bodies.
The infusion sets are defective, causing either too much or too little insulin to be administered to the diabetic user. Too much insulin can cause hypoglycemia or "insulin shock"; too little can cause ketoacidosis. Both conditions are severe and potentially life-threatening.
The defective Medtronic MiniMed infusion sets are labeled with Model numbers MMT-396, MMT-397, MMT-398 and MMT-399, and with a "Lot" number starting with the number "8". Click here to see how to find the model and lot numbers on the infusion sets. Click for photo 1 and 2 to see photos of a recalled insulin infusion set.
The American Diabetes Association, http://www.diabetes.org/, estimates that over 23 million people in the United States have diabetes mellitus, often referred to simply as diabetes. Diabetes is caused by the body's failure to produce the hormone called insulin (Type 1 diabetes), or the body's inability to properly use insulin (Type 2 diabetes). Type 1 diabetics, estimated to be 5-10% of all diabetics, must take insulin injections to live. Instead of manually injecting insulin with a syringe multiple times a day, many diabetics use pager-sized insulin pumps to continuously inject insulin into their bodies.
If you believe you have used a defective Medtronic infusion set, or if you have had adverse health complications while using a Medtronic MiniMed insulin pump, please call or e-mail Donald D. Heck, LLC today for a fee consultation.
